Harley/Unimog

Mom spotted this Harley parked on the main street through Astoria on Monday. While she was taking pictures the owner spotted her and gave her the story. It is a 1938 model U that less than 500 were made for the police to use to chase down the new hot rod Sportsters and such. The man said he had just bought it from another man who was about to sell it to a Japanese collector. It would have gone into a private collection in Japan had the new owner not been able to buy it. The bike has been lovingly restored by the previous owner and the new owner rides it regularly. Dad says the Unimog started out as a military vehicle in the 50's and has been adopted for all kinds of uses since. He had never seen one in the "flesh" before and was amazed to see one in a parking lot in Portland with current tags and registration. It appeared to be in regular service but there was noone around to ask to get any details.
